There has been a lot of talk about privacy in the social media space. Facebook and the likes are always trying to bump the privacy settings, majority of the young users don’t give a damn about privacy. To be honest I don’t give a damn either ! Why should I, I have nothing to hide.
I like to be open about the way I live and if someone is interested in my life, be my guest. I use Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo, Friendsfeed etc. I’m sure you can easily track my activities on a daily basis but why should I bother. I put my information for my friends to see, if I have a stalker - good luck mate! If anyone is not interested in my profile then stop reading and get back to work
This blog post was triggered off because of acquisitions that my twitter updates are inappropriate.
Especially the one above. It was meant to be for my family/friends living in the US, Kuwait etc. I just don’t get it, why are people so concerned about what I type.
Someone suggested that I should make my Twitter private. NO WAY! It will always remain public and just for your information my twitter also updates my Facebook status ![]()
Why not dance, sing etc like you would in your normal life. Its probably a cultural or rather a personal thing but I fail to understand when some people get overly concerned about privacy ! Its come to the point that its really annoying me: There are sites out there whose USP is Privacy. Example: Moli.com as mentioned in Techcrunch UK.
I have nothing against Moli, it raised $30m for a social network. But it pisses me off when marketers come up with silly stuff like privacy as their key selling point. Whilst majority of users on Twitter have public updates, with minute by minute commentary. Surely that should be a serious privacy concern. See I have just manged to track where Dave (builtbydave) will be today and tomorrow (Sorry Dave I’m just assuming you don’t care about people knowing your plans for the day):

Conclusion of my rant! No one really really gives a S*** about privacy apart from silly marketeers, paranoid users and entrepreneurs who become paranoid because of the paranoid users ! Saying that I know we will continuously be asked about privacy features at Kwiqq and we will continue building it but please don’t make it a priority for your social network!
